Bathroom Transformation!

So my wonderful hubby gave me a gift card to HL for Christmas. I had racked my brain trying to figure out what to spend it on, and finally decided that with my overflowing craft items, that redocortaing the basement bathroom was the way to go.

My patient mom and I spend a couple hours at HL trying to figure out what exactly to do, when I remembered hubby’s suggestion of a hunting themed bathroom. So…

We started with a pretty clean slate, as you can see

HL had some awesome antler accessories, so we picked those up.

I was glad to see the shiny silver TP holder go! Next to remove the towel rack and replace it with a nice shelf and basket.

Still going to trim my towels with some Camo fabric but who knows when I will get time to sit down at the sewing machine!  Also found a couple deer pictures out of one of Cohen’s old calendars, so we framed those babies up!

With my mom and step-dad moving, they are cleaning house and my step-dad volunteered his amazing deer portrait and some wonderful Avon gun shaped cologne containers. Our basement is trimmed in barn board and we have some extra planks laying around, so I grabbed one to display these wonderful guns. After buying some suede and some brass decorative thumb tacks, I positioned each gun on the barn board. Turned out pretty cool!!

The walls still looked a little bare so while watching some March Madness basketball I painted myself a picture to hang up.

So, we have gone from nothing, to something! I think I still want to add something more on the TP holder wall, but for now, I think I’m hunted out and am ready to move on to something else!!

Our new furniture should be coming this week so let’s hope to see this transformation happen soon!!

Everything is still on the tile in the bar area since the carpet just came a couple weeks ago. So ready to have a livable space down here!!

Enjoy your day!!

Not Today!!

It’s been one of those days where I wonder how I am still awake and not crashed out and unresponsive to the world. Lots of running and moving, moving and running.

It started with an early drive to the “big city” for an appointment. Once it was over I had to head straight back so I could pick up the oldest child and take him in for a last minute dentist appointment (about 45 minute drive from home) to check on a broken tooth. Then it was back to school to pick up the little one and one of my sons friends so he could come to basketball practice with us. Home to make dinner quickly, get some homework done, clean a little, and head to coach basketball practice which was sure to be intense after our tournament loss over the weekend! Phew!

Now… Those that know my history know that longevity driving is not my thing. I used to have a half way point between our “country” home and the “big city” where I would pull over to take a 15-25 minute nap. Yeah, that bad.

I have only fell asleep driving once… It wasn’t good… But I had stayed up til 5am studying for a final, fell asleep for an hour, then got up to drive. I totalled my car but thankfully wasn’t hurt badly. But I know that the portential is always there with me… I can sleep almost anywhere! So spending almost 3 hours in the car driving by myself today and then another hour and a half in the car with my oldest, definitely would’ve been a challenge for me.

After getting home from school today, knowing we would be leaving in about an hour and a half, my old self would’ve popped in a frozen pizza or quickly thrown together some macaroni and cheese.

Today I got home and cut up some carrots and onions, defrosted some beef steak, made a sauce, and cooked up some great beef and vegetable lo mein. I would’ve taken pictures but we were kind of in a rush. I got some cleaning done on the side and helped the little one with her homework!

We got to basketball practice and we knew we needed to work the boys hard on our offense and rebounding.

The first month of basketball, my co-coach and I played 2 on 2 with some boys after practice. We played to 11 and I was WIPED!! I had to step out and catch my breath and call it quits.

There are a handful of our boys that haven’t quite got the offense yet so with the help of a great parent that came to help, we took those boys and drilled the offense. The two of us played defense on the 5 of them. It was hard work!! Not only was I switching my defensive coverage between the players during the drill, when I got to each one with the ball I was yelling “PASS! PASS! PASS!”… “CUT! CUT! CUT!”… “CALL! CALL! CALL!” (For the ball)… “SHIFT!”  Once they started to get it I was getting excited and yelling kudos at them and encouraging them to go faster and yell louder!  Then!! After working on the offense drill, when we had the boys run, I ran with them!!

So… After all of the madness of my Monday, I am loving my plexus and it has nothing to do with my weight.  In fact, my weight on the scale hasn’t moved in over a week (which is okay considering I was on vacation last week)!  I am loving my plexus for what is happening to my body!

  • Not once did I get drowsy during any of my drives today
  • I got through my day on one cup of coffee and water!!
  • Not once did I consider popping in a quick fix dinner
  • I made a delicious, healthy dinner for my family in less than an hour
  • I got active during our practice and led the boys by example

I feel like a totally different person, and that is who I am TODAY!

My Plexus Website

Vacation Week!!

That’s right!! Only a few more days til I can leave this blasted white stuff behind and sink my toes into the warm sands on the Gulf!!  I don’t think I will miss this view at all!

Nope!  Bring on the sunshine!

I am so thankful my Plexus products have made such a difference in my life so far! I found a couple cute summer outfits back in December on the clearance rack and they were a size smaller than what I normally buy. Not sure what I was thinking when I bought them, but thanks to Plexus, I tried them on today and YIPPEE(!) they fit!!

(Don’t tell the hubby I told you….  But he has been doing the Plexus regimen with me, and he is down 10 pounds!!!!!)

I’d like to take the credit for our weight loss by making these delicious healthy meals, but we both know that the Plexus is what is the main driver behind our weight loss success!

But, I will trudge on and keep experimenting with different healthy options.  So, for my delicious dinner tonight I had to go easy. I have a HUGE project at work that has to be done before we board the plane and I am working every possible minute before I leave Wisconsin behind.

Since moving to rural America, I discovered this thing called “The Schwann’s Man.” It’s a guy… who comes to your door… and you can buy your groceries!!! No way!! I’m sold!!

We normally opt for their awesome ice cream products, but I have been giving their food items a shot for a little while now (we love their cheese tortellini!). The last time he was here I wanted to see what choices they had that would fit our new eating habits. Enter the Ancient Grain Encrusted Cod. Yeah, “ancient grain” didn’t sound all that appetizing, but I bit the bullet and ordered it, and I am so glad that I did!!

So, there is a bit of stuff on this fillet. We were able to pick out what looked like pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, oats, and poppy seeds right away. The breading resembled my bread crumb breading, with tons of herbs and spices.

And they are easy… Just bake for 7 minutes, flip, and bake another 10 minutes and you are done!

While that was cooking I figured we were going to try this mushroom and rice pilaf. Recipe from Savy Naturalista

It starts by cooking these yummy onions…

Add some mushrooms. I only had canned on hand…

Cook for a while and then add 3/4 cup brown rice, a little salt, and black pepper.  I went with instant, and I’m sure the recipe wanted the real deal.  But that’s okay. It worked.

Finally, add 1 3/4 cup of vegetable broth, cover and cook.  The smell was awesome!

The pilaf was done right when the fish was ready to come out of the oven. The fish was AMAZING!  The kids weren’t as thrilled about the seeds on their fish as we were, but it added a great crunch and none of the breading got soggy! The filet was bright white with excellent flavor! This will definitely be a repeat on our dinner menu! The hubby already called dibs on the leftovers for his lunch tomorrow!

I felt bad we had no veggie side on our plates tonight, but hey, I was in a hurry!

My PLEXUS website!

My first attempt!

Yes! Tonight is my first night of not following a recipe! I can cook, but generally, if you take the recipe away from me and I go free-style, everyone ends up hungry in the end! So this is big! But our kids are gone tonight so I only have to please me and the hubby for dinner!

I knew I wanted chicken and Brussel sprouts since that is what I had on hand and unthawed. I can do this!!

First, some olive oil and pressed garlic cloves in the pan, then add chicken… Yep, I’m doing great!  But I better get fancy so I added some onion powder, black pepper, a little salt, and basil. No… I didn’t measure any of it! But it looks good and is smelling good too!

So, now what. I have “fresh” Brussel sprouts and a bag of kale. Let’s sauté that up! Added some green onions and a few slices of red onion to that, as well as some black pepper, very little salt, and crushed red pepper. It’s smelling okay at this point but it’s missing something! Ah! A couple dashes of red wine vinegar! I love the color this has!

Now, how shall we eat this green chicken loveliness? Got it! Put the chicken and veggie mixture in an 8″ wheat tortilla and sprinkle a table spoon of Parmesan cheese on it. Roll that baby up and put it in the pan to warm… Let that cheese melt!

Hubby gave me a 9! Yes! A 9!!!!! I hardly ever get 9’s! (Yes, he does rate my cooking on a scale of 1 to 10 and I am totally okay with that!)

Wow! He’s not the only one who’s impressed! Yum!

Say what?!?!

Yep! That was me! A skeptic!

I had been seeing these Plexus testimonials for months and I wouldn’t take the leap. I did do my share of research on it though! And then I thought… “Have I ever researched about the aspartame in my diet pepsi!” And “Have I ever done this much research on any other over the counter medicine or supplement I am taking?”

When I realized that on a daily basis I had been blindly accepting so many things that I put in to my body I decided to stop researching and find out for myself the truth of this amazing product line!

My main reason for wanting to try this product was for the health benefits. I am always tired, bloated, sluggish, not at the “top of my game”, anxious, and lately have been suffering from continuous infections. So the thought of an all-natural product being able to help change those symptoms was definitely appealing. And in all honesty, the thought of weight loss wasn’t a bad thing either! I mean, I’ve been sporting my post baby muffin top for 7 years now!

So I jumped in feet first! I decided to start selling this product because there are SO MANY testimonies of positive results… Many of which I know personally. But the idea of getting the product at wholesale cost was what sealed that deal for me.

I ordered the “Plexus Triplex” which is the Plexus Slim, ProBio5, and the Biocleanse. I started taking them on Thursday, January 22, 2015. By Sunday, I was noticing changes:

  • I fell asleep easier and I was more awake when I woke up.
  • I felt more energized during the day. It’s not energy like I am on speed or something, just more awake and alert. Often I would fall asleep if I was sitting and watching tv and I could tell that definitely wasn’t going to happen on Plexus!
  • I had an active infection when I started the plexus and was not on any meds at the time. The symptoms began to disappear!
  • Concentrating on my work was improving!
  • My anxiety level was definitely going down!

I was definitely in awe of how fast things were improving in my body!

On my first day, my weight was 200 pounds. My measurements were:

  • Hips: 44.5″
  • Belly: 44.5″
  • Natural waistline: 40.25″
  • Chest: 43″

One week later my weight is 190!

My measurement are:

  • Hips: 44.5″
  • Belly: 43.75
  • Natural waistline: 39″
  • Chest: 43″

That’s a total of 10 pounds and 2 inches gone!!

Now before anyone freaks out, let me tell you this.

  • I was a multiple times a day diet drinker. Diet coke, diet Pepsi… It didn’t matter, but I drank A LOT of soda!  A LOT!
  • I could empty a pot of coffee in the morning and then some!
  • I work from home so snacking just came naturally.
  • We ate a ton of processed foods.

Since starting the Plexus:

  • I have not had a single dark soda in 6 days. I don’t even WANT one! We have a standing dinner night with my in-laws one night a week, and I can always polish off at least 2 diet pepsi’s while we are there. This week I didn’t even think about grabbing one out of the fridge! I did have a 7-up with dinner the other night, but even that was my only soda during this time! And I DON’T MISS IT!
  • I am averaging one cup of coffee a day now.
  • I have virtually NO snack cravings! When I feel hungry I drink some water and wait 20 minutes and if I am still hungry I grab some almonds or something small and voila! All better!
  • As mentioned in my previous post… We have been taking steps to cleaner eating so we are not relying on all of the processed products we once consumed on a daily basis.
  • I downloaded a food tracker app on my phone to make sure I was eating properly and I am consistently getting 1200-1300 calories every day.
  • The only requirement with Plexus is to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water every day, so I have been putting down my 100 ounces.

Here is my week to week picture comparison! The top picture is from last week and the bottom is one week later!

I am beyond excited about these products and how they are making me feel! Even my husband is noticing and trying it out for himself!!

Thanks for sharing in my journey! I’d love to share this product with the world, so let me know if I can help you get to a healthier you as well!! Don’t make the same mistake as me an keep putting your health on the back burner!

The Start of my Journey: Our Diets

This week I embarked on a new journey in my life. I am taking a step forward to improving the health and wellness of myself and my family.

Stepping out of your comfort zone is always a big step, sometimes a leap of faith. Making the decision didn’t come easy for me… But I wanted to do something that was going to improve the overall health for my family.

So first… Our diets.  My husband is a country boy who thinks every meal should consist of red meat and white potatoes. He has an abnormal aversion to most white food items, so sour cream, cream cheese, mayo, etc are all out of the question for food options.  Our kids are carb and sugar junkies.  Our 9 year old son could polish off a roll of saltines in minutes if you let him, and our 7 year old daughter has an enormous sweet tooth.  Finding dinner recipes that met everyone’s needs often meant boxed mac n cheese, fish sticks, chicken nuggets, hamburgers, and other processed or quick to make meals.

Something needed to change.  I knew that trying to cut any one thing out or adapting a strict diet plan was something that simply would not work for us. So I started doing some research and simply eating more cleanly (less processed meals), looked plausible.

I compiled a menu of recipes where veggies were the main ingredient. I informed by husband that we would still have red meat, but it would only be 2-3 times a week. The rest would be chicken, pork, or fish. He was willing to give that a go with me.

Here were our recipes for our first week:

Monday: Baked Salmon, Asparagus, and Brussel Sprouts – I have to admit, this was AWESOME and everyone cleaned their plate!

Salmon recipe

Tuesday: Balsamic Beef Roast with Roasted Veggies (yellow squash, zucchini, mushrooms, onions, and red peppers) – the beef roast was a little sweet but the kids scarfed it down in a bun with barbecue sauce!

Balsamic Beef Roast

Roasted Veggie Recipe

Wednesday: Baked Parmesan chicken and roasted cauliflower. This chicken was a hit but the cauliflower… Not so much. We are going to try it again though, just cooked a different way.

Baked Parm Chicken

Parm Caulifower

Thursday: Cabbage and Kielbasa skillet. Epic fail! We like boiled cabbage but the skillet recipe turned everyone away. 😦

Cabbage and Kielbasa Skillet

Friday: Baked Chicken with Veggies (spinach, artichokes, and onions). The chicken rocked the show for everyone. The veggies, not as much, although our daughter loved the cooked spinach and picked it all out of the pan!

Baked Chicken, Spinach, & Artichokes

Saturday: Beef, Kale, and Mushroom stir-fry. The kids weren’t a huge fan of this one either. Son decided he doesn’t like mushrooms now!

Beef, Kale, & Mushroom Stir-Fry

So… Overall, we all ate a bit better this week. No one starved. We found some things we liked and some things we didn’t. Some recipes we will be keeping and some will be going in the trash.

But we are taking steps towards eating more cleanly… Even if our steps are small and are rewarded with frozen pizza on Sunday!

The Power of Plexus

Plexus is a health and wellness company with an array of products to help you achieve a healthier you!  We all know that health is generally not our number one concern. I know we like to think it is, but really, in between work, kids, your spouse, housework, social events, and life itself, what are you really doing to improve your health?

I was faced with that question recently. What really, was I doing to help improve my health? What was I doing to model to my children, that taking care of yourself was an important part of life? What was I doing, to get myself healthier so that I can have the energy and stamina to keep up with them every day?

The answer was harsh. I wasn’t doing anything! I was just going through my days, drinking soda, eating unhealthy snacks, not exercising, and not doing a single thing that would help improve my overall health! That’s when I was introduced to Plexus.

Plexus is a health and wellness company that originally started with a breast check product, and has evolved to a comprehensive line up of all natural products that give you the opportunity to do something for yourself to achieve a healthier you!

I sat on the fence for a while, listening to many people I know talk about how much better they felt and how much weight they were losing. I researched the company to find out if it was a scam and looked for testimonies online that would prove the products were not as successful as I was hearing. I COULDN’T FIND WHAT I WANTED TO FIND!

Plexus is a legit company, with very legitimate products that are improving peoples lives! So I jumped off the fence, joined the company, and am on my way to a healthier me!

I hope that you will follow along and see, like I did, that it is time for us to put ourselves first, get off the fence. Let me help you take your first step to getting a more healthier you!!!
